Parvez, played by Om Puri, is a reserved taxi driver who has spent 25 years in England building a life for himself and his family. Minoo, played by Gopi Desai, is Parvez's dutiful wife and Farid, played by Akbar Kurtha, is Parvez's teenage son, who is consumed with preserving his roots in a multicultural country. The stability of Parvez's home is disrupted when Parvez begins an illicit love affair with a local prostitute, Bettina, played by Rachel Griffiths, and a German business man, Schitz played by Stellan Skarsgard, comes to town and challenges Parvez to live a more free lifestyle.
