This article is a case study of help provided by volunteers of a non-governmental organization, Bharatiya Stree Shakti (BSS), to people affected by floods in Santacruz, Mumbai, India. It demonstrates that post-disaster work needs to go beyond meeting basic needs (shelter, food, sanitation, and immunization) and address the psychosocial impact of the disaster on people.
