Contextualising the development of practice research in Asia [electronic resource] / Timothy Sim,Tak Mau Simon Chan,Martin Chok,Ke Cui,Samuel S. C. Wang,Fazlin Abdullah &Keith Wong. - pp. 116-131.

Debate and advocacy for practice research in social work have mostly taken place in Europe and the United States of America. It is apparent there is a lack of dialogue between researchers and practitioners on practice research within Asia and with their Western counterparts. The Fourth International Conference on Practice Research (ICPR) was hosted in Hong Kong 22 to 24 May 2017. This provided a strategic opportunity for practitioners, academics and other stakeholders such as funding bodies, governmental and non-governmental organisations in Asia to exchange with their Western counterparts up close while charting their contributions to the ongoing discourse and debate about practice research. This joint paper presents an overview of the developmental context of practice research in Asia and summarises key opportunities and challenges encountered by social work academics and practitioners in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan, which are predominantly made up of Chinese communities.
