Summary, etc 本書解讀典藏於美國耶魯大學圖書館的明清時期山形水勢圖：《耶魯航海圖》。山形水勢圖為中國帆船舟師據以辨識方位、確認航道的實用工具，多為祕本，不輕易示人，因此留存下來的無幾，此亦彰顯了《耶魯航海圖》的彌足珍貴。
作者一一校讀圖中文字，考釋地理名詞，闡述海圖蘊含的訊息，借助GPS定位諸山與島嶼現今相應位置。同時梳理出《耶魯航海圖》中的「二王船」，是以越南南部的赤坎（今潘郎Phan Rang）為基地，共分三條航線：第一條航線行駛於赤坎至金門；第二條航線行駛於赤坎至柬埔寨和暹羅；第三條航線行駛於福建至遼東，另有二條支線往渤海灣。
　　書中並概述古代帆船的形制與航海術語，探究明清時期東亞海域實況，以對海圖有深刻的背景理解。更進一步，藉此海圖與航線，勾勒出明代中葉以降，中國海商移民東亞各港口後各自發展航海事業，所形成的中國帆船東亞海域貿易網絡圖。
