Multiple studies have demonstrated that community organizing is an effective method to influence public health problems. Documenting and describing the community organizing process is critical for understanding and dissemination. The D.A.R.E. Plus Project is a multi-component, community-wide intervention to reduce drug use and violent behaviors among adolescents using classroom, family, and community organizing intervention strategies. This paper describes the community organizing methods and process results of eight adult and youth action teams formed using direct-action organizing, and offers recommendations for future projects.
