520 _aDoes life have purpose and meaning? This question is a fount of anxiety which plagues mankind. No one has yet provided a definitive and believable answer that will allow humans to live in mental harmony. Angst is a strange phenomenon that haunts human beings. It has been defined as neurotic fear, anxiety, guilt and remorse. Remorse for what? Are humans guilty for living, for enjoying a sunrise or waking to the gurgle of a mountain stream? Angst is a defining and pertinent featUre of human being. The following book is an attempt to link the psychological evil of angst to the biological principles contained in the theory of organic evolution; to provide an empirical basis for conciliation between the material and spiritual needs of man. The prospective reader must agree from the beginning to at least consider plausible information from all disciplines of knowledge - forsaking a predetermined course of belief. We act as investigators, not as judges. And you must pay attention to the evidence with due diligence. The questions cannot be determined much less answered without carefully probing the origins, meaning and consequences of all the avenues of knowing explored. Finally, each individual must be willing to endure the agonizing deliberation before a final vote is cast. Everyone must answer the questions in the solitude of their own mind and then individually choose his or her relationship with the world. This book is dedicated to those who are willing to plunge into a deeper understanding between mind, body and spirit - ready to realize the human potential.
