Following 30 years of rapid socioeconomic development and improvements in education and healthcare, the role of older adults in China is experiencing a fundamental transition, and social policies must support older adults' greater engagement in economic and social development. Using the latest data, this paper analyzes the characteristics of population ageing in China, the changing characteristics of the older adult population, policy and practice addressing older adults' opportunities for employment, volunteering, caregiving, and pursuing a lifelong education.
